Selong Belanak is a wide, gently sloping crescent beach on Lombok's south coast, popular with beginner surfers for its soft, consistent waves, and increasingly dotted with beach clubs, cafés and villas along the hillside behind the sand.
Selong Belanak's growth has picked up as South Lombok's overall visitor numbers have risen alongside Mandalika's development — its gentle, beginner-friendly waves and picturesque bay have made it a popular add-on stop for visitors based in Kuta Lombok, and hospitality investment has followed that growing day-trip and short-stay demand.
Land in central Selong Belanak is cheaper than central Kuta, making it the second-most-expensive node in South Lombok. The coast's development is expected to spread outward from Kuta in both directions, but more towards Selong than the other way, which positions Selong Belanak as the direction South Lombok's growth is actively favouring right now, not just a cheaper alternative to Kuta.

Observation, not predictionI'd expect continued growth here in step with the wider South Lombok coast, with development spreading from the beachfront strip up onto the surrounding hillside — including toward Tampah Hills — as flatter beachfront land becomes scarcer. Given that this direction is specifically expected to be favoured over the alternative westward spread, I'd treat Selong Belanak as one of the more likely next-stage growth nodes on this coast, not just a quieter alternative to Kuta.
